By carIf you are planning to drive your car, the most convenient way from Buenos Aires is to drive along a highway to Cañuelas (via Ezeiza) to join National Route N 3 which runs north-south along Patagonia and is totally paved up to the Straits of Magellan.If you plan to cross the Straits of Magellan through its wider part you can get aboard the Austral Broom ferryboat in the city of Punta Arenas to sail for about 2 hours and 30 minutes and get to Puerto Porvenir, on the Chilean side of Tierra del Fuego.
